"Jeff is everything you want in a writer: fast, communicative, receptive to guidance, and more than capable of bringing his own personality to his work, while also genuinely respecting your well-defined brand voice."
John Moore Williams | Senior UX Content Strategist | Google
Former Head of Content | Webflow
In the 6 years and 9 months years I worked for them I wrote 102 blogs covering web design trends, UX, UI, typography, freelancing, and other relevant topics. During my time at Webflow, I was part of a content team that scaled overall organic web traffic by 900+% and grew blog search traffic by over 625% during a three-year period.
One of Webflow's biggest audiences are freelancers. The main goal of this blog was to give them a resource they could use to help them land new gigs. A secondary goal was for it to rank high in organic searches for a number of related terms.
For this post I worked with an SEO report of words and phrases. I was able to punch this up with all the necessary SEO, while still making it sound like a human wrote it instead of a keyword cramming robot.
All of the SEO work I did on this piece brought results. In 2021 it had a total of 192,761 unique visits and in 2022 it received 154,873.
I always love brainstorming, researching, and pitching blog ideas. I make it a point to identify topics that haven't been covered exhaustively by others and finding a unique take or perspective. I saw that there were few quality posts out there covering maximalism, and thought that this would be a subject that designers would enjoy reading about, as well as help in inspiring their work.
For this piece I researched the history of maximalism and found examples of it in print and digital design to include. I also got to do one of my other favorite things, and that’s to talk to a designer. I interviewed Eisner nominated visual designer Keeli McCarthy who provided plenty of great insights and pull quotes for this post.
